Constant Rain Instead of Autumn Sun: What Vacationers Should Expect on Mallorca

👁 2374

With Storm System Alice, there is currently no beach weather in sight on Mallorca. Weather warnings, flooded roads, and tips for making the most of autumn holidays despite the rain.

Not formal wear, but rubber boots: Mallorca's autumn weather

People wandering around Palma in the last hours will notice immediately: the air feels heavy, the promenade at Parc de la Mar is quieter than usual, and cafés are closing their terraces. Storm system Alice has been bringing rain for days—and the forecast shows no end for now. For many travelers, especially families on autumn vacation, that's understandably annoying. For island residents, it's more normal: October can be like this.

What the situation looks like

The national weather service has issued several warning levels: orange for the southwest, west and the Tramuntana mountains, yellow for the rest of the island. At Son Sant Joan airport there have already been disruptions and locally flooded access roads. On the MA-1 towards Andratx, cars were stuck in puddles last night, and in small towns some roads were temporarily closed.

Temperatures stay surprisingly mild: daytime values around 23 to 26 degrees are still expected. That means: warm enough to be outside, but wet. Thunderstorms and heavy showers are possible, especially on Sunday afternoon and into the new week.

What vacationers can do now

First rule: stay calm. Check flights, review rental car insurance terms, and don't head out blindly if warnings are in place. Good shoes, a rain jacket, and a flexible schedule are currently worth more than a beach bag.

And yes, Mallorca also has rain-friendly options: museums in Palma, the Aquarium and indoor playgrounds are real alternatives. If you need fresh air, you can find wind-protected walking routes in Sineu or the vineyards around Binissalem — provided the paths are passable. Local markets and small bodegas also offer a cozy balance when the sun hides.

A short outlook

Meteorologists expect that the severe weather warnings will be eased in the coming days—but further rain is to be expected. Plan excursions at short notice and keep an eye on local info. And a candid tip: bad weather makes some places feel a bit cozier. A hot chocolate in a downtown pastry shop can be very comforting.

Stay careful on the roads, check with your accommodation and the authorities, and if possible: stay flexible. The beach isn't going anywhere – it's just wetter today than expected.
