Festivals & Markets This Weekend: Alcúdia, Palma and Binissalem in Focus

👁 2413

This weekend is worth a tour around the island: giant figures in Alcúdia, Variat tapas in Palma, and the wine festival in Binissalem – tips, times, and handy hints.

A Weekend Tip: Get Out for a Quick Breath of Island Air

\n

The weather is expected to be pleasant – a few clouds on Saturday, cool in the evening. So: pack a light jacket and shoes that can handle it. Mallorca is lively again. If you want street vibes, music, and local treats, there are several good reasons this weekend to leave the car at home and explore the places on foot.

Alcúdia: The Giants Come to Town

\n

In Alcúdia it starts tomorrow in the late afternoon: from about 17:15 the traditional giant figures—the Gegants—will be presented at Plaza Juan Carles V. I was there last year: kids giggling loudly and older women sitting on chairs, clapping to the beat. The figures are loud, colorful, and somehow goofy; exactly what a small village or town fair needs. Tip: If you want to get close, arrive early or find a place in the side streets, where you can often also smell roasted almonds.

Palma: Variat Tapas at Plaza Pere Garau

\n

In Palma, a typical Mallorcan tapas dish known as a Variat is offered at Plaza Pere Garau. The offering is valid tomorrow and the day after – two chances to try it. Expect simple, honest fare: warm bread, small pieces of fish, plenty of olives and the occasional portion of Sobrasada. The stalls open in the morning and fill up around noon. Quick note: around lunchtime it gets crowded, so it’s better to find a seat near a street corner where you can watch the bustle.

Binissalem: Wine Festival and Wine Fair

\n

And anyone who loves wine should head to Binissalem this weekend. The traditional wine festival features a wine fair where local winemakers present their vintages. The fair usually starts in the morning – from 12:00 tasting and chatting begin. Picture small tasting glasses, stalls with regional cheese, and relaxed conversations about grape varieties. My tip: bring cash; some stalls are small and the card reader can take a break.

Planning & Practical Tips

\n

Public transport fills up quickly; the bus lines between Palma and Alcúdia or Binissalem are popular on weekends. If you come by car: leave early, parking in the old town is scarce. And yes – bring a foldable cup or reusable cutlery, most stalls are happy about less waste.

\n\n

Short and sweet: Alcúdia from 17:15 (Gegants), Palma (Plaza Pere Garau) Variat tomorrow + tomorrow, Binissalem from 12:00 Wine Festival. A perfect program for a day with good mood and regional delicacies.
