The mountain village of Fornalutx invites you to the traditional village festival: folk dances, live music, a water park for kids, and on Sunday an ABBA tribute party — all without bull runs.

A Weekend That Smells of a Village: Fornalutx Opens Its Doors

When the chestnut leaves are still bright green and the evening air is already cooler, you notice on Mallorca that the village festivals are back. Fornalutx, this pretty mountain village with steep alleys and small cafés at the Plaza, makes it easy for us to head out this weekend. The Festes de Fornalutx kicks off with a packed program for all generations.

No Bull, But Music and Folk Dancing

A few years ago the town ended the bull hunt — you can still feel it in the mood: less racket, more family laughter. Instead, there are traditional folk dances on Sunday evening, as they have been practiced here for decades. I was briefly on the Plaza yesterday: the drummers beat punctually at 8:30 PM, old and young join in, and those who stay seated are carried along by the good mood.

For the Little Ones: Water Park and Games

Especially handy: on Saturday there is a small water park for children (from about 11:00 to 18:00) — just the right thing to tire the kids before the adults head to the Verbena. There are bouncy castles, water games, and a corner with coloring pencils that surprisingly gets used for a long time.

If you get hungry, there are stalls with local treats: grilled vegetables, empanadas and churros, plus Mallorcan tapas. The prices are not exactly cheap, but reasonable — and the portions are enough for a small evening craving.

Sunday Evening: ABBA Tribute and Good Vibes

The highlight if you like something a bit pop: on Sunday from around 10:00 PM, an ABBA tribute band heats up the Plaza. If you imagine a discreet cover band, you’ll be surprised — glitter and good moods included. Earlier, the traditional dances run; the order provides a nice contrast between old customs and party.

Practical tip: Parking at the town entrance is limited. If you can, come on foot or take the local shuttle bus that stops at notable points in the neighboring villages. And in the evenings: don't forget a warm jacket; the alleyways of the old town cool quickly.

Overall the festival feels honest and open — not a big spectacle, but a weekend where neighbors come together, children play, and tourists can experience something authentic. If you still feel spontaneous: simply head to the Plaza, grab a beer, and listen. That's how villages get into the festive mood.
