From 9:00 AM retirees can book the Imserso trips to the Balearic Islands. Few places, new discounts — and pets allowed for the first time.
Imserso sale on the Balearic Islands: lots of information, few places
This morning at 9:00 AM it began: the new sales window for the popular Imserso senior trips to the Balearic Islands was opened. Whoever thought it would be relaxed was quickly disappointed. Phones are ringing. Websites are loading slowly. At the post office in Palma there were already a few people with printed forms in their hands at half past nine.
What's new — short and practical
First things first: around 2.8 million information letters were sent to eligible people. This time there are only about 15,000 places available for the Balearic Islands. That means: statistically only one in ten applicants will get a spot. New and relevant for many: seniors with particularly low pensions will now pay only 50 euros per trip. A noticeable relief for some households.
Pets on board — with conditions
For the first time trips can also be booked with pets. The rules are clear: maximum 10 kilograms including the transport box. If you have a small dog or cat, you should book early — quotas are limited and often quickly taken.
Practical tips: If you don't want to spend hours on hold, try right after the opening in the morning. A friend of mine managed it at 09:05; the online reservation worked. The local travel agency in Cala Mayor also advised having documents ready: ID, pension statement, and the postal invitation — that saves time.
The travel industry on the islands expects demand to far exceed supply. In travel agencies on Playa de Palma and in Alcúdia I heard the same sentence repeatedly this morning: 'Being quick pays off.'
What else you should know
The offers are aimed at senior women and men entitled to the state program. Details about destinations, hotel categories, or travel times vary by provider and allocation. Some trips are explicitly designed for solo travelers, others for couples.
A small, honest note: It's worth reading the terms carefully. Rebooking rules, included services, and possible additional costs are easily overlooked when booking quickly.
If you need help: the municipalities' social services usually offer assistance with filling out the applications. Parishes and senior centers also often organize advisory days — ask around in your neighborhood.
For many, the Imserso program is more than just a trip. It's a chance for weeks with company, excursions, and fresh air — and now partly with lower prices. Whether the quota is sufficient will become clear in the coming days. My advice: stay calm, but don't wait too long.
