A friendly match in Santa Ponça brings Bavarian teams and the Mallorca Integra Foundation together — free, with paella and a lot of heart.
A football evening that aims to be more than just a game
On Wednesday, September 17, 2025, at 6:00 PM, it will come alive at the Polideportivo Municipal in Santa Ponça. Not a professional event, not a media circus — just people kicking, laughing, and looking forward. The Rotary Club Calvià International has again invited to an inclusive football match: teams from Bayern are coming to play against players from the Mallorca Integra Foundation from Palma.
If you have ever stood at a sports field, you know that some of the most honest stories are made there. The sun still hangs warm over the bay, a light wind carries the scent of the sea and — indeed — freshly cooked paella. Admission? Free. Paella and drinks? Also free. If you like, you can make a voluntary donation at the exit for the participating clubs.
How it all began
The idea comes from Gerhard Bauer, a long-standing rehab sports activist from Bavaria. Since 2004 he has organized training for people with disabilities and turned the annual camp into something special: this year the training camp was moved to Mallorca so participants could get a different air — in a double sense. Many cannot travel far, yet the experience should be possible. So teams came from places like Irchenrieth and Ramspau near Regensburg.
More than a game: community and opportunities
The Mallorca Integra Foundation provides space for sport and everyday life to young people with intellectual disabilities. Since 2018 the foundation has worked to ensure that nearly 150 participants aged ten and up have regular offerings—from football training to tournaments like the Mallorca International Football Cup. Some players even benefit from collaborations with RCD Mallorca and stay in contact with the project RCD Mallorca Genuine.
The match in Santa Ponça is cheerful, not exaggerated. Volunteer helpers in red caps call the players together. Parents nervously check their phones, older spectators nod in approval, and children run barefoot along the fence. Such scenes linger. Sport connects, period.
