The Schlager star returns to Mallorca for a family party and releases shortly before a new version of his hit — this time as a duet.
The King Takes a Quick Break: Family Celebration Instead of a Tour
If you stroll along Ballermann these days, you can already tell: there's a bit of buzz in the scene again. Jürgen Drews, the man behind the 'King of Mallorca', returns to the island for a private celebration—and that sparks anticipation here and there.
More than just a birthday guest
The circle apparently includes wife Ramona and close friends. I asked a few bartenders on the Playa: "If Jürgen shows up here, it will be cozy and loud at the same time," one said with a smile. Sure, many associate him with carefree moments — the man is part of the island's history.
A hit gets a new life
Interestingly: Shortly before his return to Mallorca, a fresh recording of his classic 'King of Mallorca' appears — this time as a duet with a well-known online entertainer. The single is scheduled for September 19. Whether it's radio- or club-ready? My guess: the beach bars will test it, at latest on a Friday night.
No more big tours: Drews emphasizes that he does not plan to go on extensive tours again. The health situation, especially the effects of polyneuropathy, doesn't allow it. Instead of many concerts, a final album remains for him and us, due in October — with new songs, remixes and family duets, it is said.
A quiet comeback — without fanfare
You can tell that he loves the limelight but handles it more cautiously these days. Corona, periods of rest at home and the realization that not every idea needs to become a tour have contributed. People in the industry say he wants to slow down, choose more carefully what he does. Sounds reasonable when you know someone close.
Whether the party at Ballermann becomes a small media spectacle or simply a family evening with Schlager and champagne remains to be seen. One thing is certain: For many fans, just the news that he's back on the island is a reason to cheer. And for the operators of the little shops on the Playa, perhaps a good evening as well — you see each other, have a glass, sing along.
My tip to everyone on-site: Keep your ears open, don't order Prosecco at 3 a.m. if you still plan to walk on Sunday, and savor the feeling that a piece of Ballermann history is briefly returning. All without big theater, as a family celebration should be.
