Last Late-Summer Weekend: Sun Today, Thunderstorms From Tonight

👁 2173

A sunny weekend in Mallorca — but already on Sunday night into Monday a weather service warning brings thunderstorms and heavy rain. Beach today, umbrella tomorrow.

Still sunny today, cooler and wetter from Monday

You can feel it in the cafés on Plaça: people sit in T‑shirts, some with cold café con leche, others still barefoot from the beach. This weekend Mallorca again shows its warm side — but not for long. The national weather service has issued a warning, and the models point to a clear change in direction.

What to expect today

On Saturday the sun often shines, with occasional clouds moving in front of the sun. In Palma the thermometers rise to about 31 °C in the afternoon, in Llucmajor and Sóller around 32 °C. Those on Playa de Palma or Port d'Alcúdia will feel a light sea breeze — just enough that wearing a jacket would still be overkill.

Locals, tourists and residents take advantage of it: bicycles are pulled out of garages, dog owners take their rounds on the Passeig Marítim, and in the small fishing village by the coast it smells of grilled fish. In short: enjoy while you can.

From Sunday evening it will get unpleasant

Already in the night from Sunday to Monday things change. From Sunday midnight there is a thunderstorm warning (yellow level) for the entire island. Local thunderstorms are expected, sometimes with heavy rain. The nights will be cooler, daytime temperatures will then fall to around 23–26 °C. So if you still want to splash in the sea on Sunday: good idea — but remember a dry towel for later.

The forecast says the unsettled phase can extend into the week. Tuesday remains rather changeable, with further shower periods. By the end of the week there are signs of a slight easing — and temperatures could return to the upper twenty-something range.

A small tip from the harbor: If you are planning trips, it's best to keep an eye on weather apps and Aemet updates. In recent years the weather has surprised us more often; a calm beach day can quickly turn into a windy, rainy evening program.

For all those who still want to soak up sun: pack sunscreen, enjoy a late ice cream, and check your smartphone again around 11 p.m. — the forecast will make the rest clear.
