The Macià Batle winery from Santa Maria de Camí was repeatedly honored at CIVAS: two Gran Oro wins and several gold medals confirm the quality of Mallorcan wines.
Great jubilation in Santa Maria: Macià Batle with top results at CIVAS
\nLate Friday afternoon, while the sun was still warm on the plum trees behind the winery, the news arrived: Macià Batle has cleaned up at CIVAS. Anyone passing today through the small tasting room on Carrer Major will immediately notice that someone has a good touch — and that's not only with label design.
\nWhat exactly was won
\nThe jury awarded two wines in the highest category Gran Oro: Col·lecció Privada 2020 and the Gran Selecció Chardonnay-Premsal Blanc. Additionally, other releases earned gold medals, namely the Gran Selecció Premsal and the Margalida Llompart Blanc — plus a few more awarded vintages.
\nFor those who like to taste as I do: the Col·lecció Privada 2020 shows notes of ripe peaches, lightly roasted vanilla and a compact yet elegant tannin structure at my last tasting. The Chardonnay-Premsal immediately makes its mark in the glass with citrus and white flowers, yet on the palate it remains surprisingly rounded.
\nWhy CIVAS matters
\nCIVAS is regarded in Spain as a competition with strict selection: not every winery may participate, only nominated bodegas land on the list. Therefore such an award carries weight — especially for an island winery that can compete nationally.
\nIn conversations on site I heard winemakers who laughed dryly and then were proud again. A staff member in the bottling hall dryly said: 'Such an award doesn't make the dish soap costs smaller, but the joy is real.'
\nWhat this means for Mallorca
\nThese successes strengthen the profile of Mallorcan winemakers overall. Tourists driving through the island interior in autumn stay longer, ask for cellar tours, and buy bottles directly at the winery. The awards are thus not just decoration on the shelf, but also an economic factor for the region.
\nPersonal observation: On a rainy morning last week I saw several tour groups spend a day in the vineyards instead of the beach. This happens more often since the island has gained more attention for its wines.
\nA little look ahead
\nMacià Batle will surely use the awards in its advertising — and continue tinkering in the cellar. If you want to visit: the tasting room usually opens until 6:00 PM, and the staff explain the varieties with calm and a wink. This is local, honest and exactly what you appreciate on an island visit.
\nWine lovers tip: If you want to try the awarded varieties, it's best to reserve shortly beforehand. Otherwise you might end up standing with just a glass in your hand and a smile weathered by the Tramuntana wind.
