This Saturday, 14 galleries in Palma will open their doors from 6 PM, with museums and cultural centers joining in. An evening for explorers, eyes, and spontaneous tapas visits.
Nit de l’Art: Art, Street Lighting and Late Tapas
When on Saturday evening the lights in Palma's old town act a little differently, you know: Nit de l’Art is back. From 6:00 PM, numerous galleries and cultural venues open their doors — and this year there are 14 galleries welcoming visitors until 11:00 PM. It feels like a small city stroll, only with more color and less plan.
Who participates?
Not only private galleries are involved. Big houses like Es Baluard, the Fundació Miró and the cultural center La Misericòrdia also have events on the program. There are guided tours, short artist conversations, and also small performances – yes, sometimes right in the middle of the sidewalk, next to the café.
What can you expect?
The night is colorful and a bit unpredictable: contemporary painting, installations, photography and occasionally an experiment that only makes sense the next day. Many galleries offer live music or DJ sets, some serve olives and a glass of wine. My tip: don't forget a water bottle, but equally don't forget an umbrella — the weather in September can still be capricious.
Practical matter: Most places are close to each other; a stroll through Carrer de Sant Miquel, Passeig del Born and the small streets around Plaça Major is easily doable on foot. Parking is scarce, so better come by bus, bike, or on foot.
Short and useful
• Date: Saturday (upcoming) • Time: 18:00–23:00 • Galleries: 14 • Museums & Cultural Centers: including Es Baluard, Fundació Miró, La Misericòrdia • Admission: often free, with exceptions for special programs
Why go?
Because the night smells different than a normal gallery day — of color, espresso and warm stone floors. It is the opportunity to discover new names, talk with artists and break the usual Saturday night plan in Palma. And yes: it's also a good evening for spontaneous tapas afterwards. Narrow streets, surprising encounters, art in passing.
If you're curious, plan your route roughly, but stay open to what arises along the way. Nit de l’Art is as much a program guide as a stroke of luck — and that is its charm.
