Today the Escuela Oficial de Idiomas in Palma is hosting an open day: information, trial lessons and a few remaining spots for Catalan and Spanish.
Try out languages in Palma: Open day today
If you walk through Palma's old town today and suddenly hear Spanish, Catalan and even Chinese voices from a courtyard, you've probably passed the Escuela Oficial de Idiomas. The official language school opens its doors today – ideal for anyone looking for a last-minute course place or who just wants to listen in.
When and where
Note: The doors are open today from 9:00 to 13:00 and again from 16:00 to 19:00. The school is conveniently located in the centre of Palma, not far from a small bakery whose aroma you can smell from outside. Parking nearby is tricky; getting there by bike or bus is easier.
What to expect
On site you can get advice on course levels, short trial lessons and the chance to register directly for remaining places. There are still spots available, especially in Catalan and Spanish beginner courses – not many, but enough for early deciders. Courses start next week, so decide quickly.
Practical note: You will absolutely need your green NIE card to register. Staff will check the formalities at the registration desk. Visitors without the card can still get information but cannot complete a binding registration.
Atmosphere and small details
Don't expect a stiff information event. There will be small international snacks, drinks and a relaxed exchange with teachers – more like a neighbourhood get-together with a language focus. Learning materials will be displayed, and the coordinator will briefly explain exam formats and how placement testing works. Tip: ask about evening courses; many working people appreciate later times.
In our opinion, this is a good opportunity before semester places are gone. Even if you're just curious, it's worth the detour. You'll meet people who really teach, not registration robots. And who knows — you might already be in your first lesson next week.
Find more details on the school's website (a quick online check is worth it before your visit). Bring your NIE card, bring a good mood and a little curiosity. Today the classrooms are open – and the best way to learn is to just start.
