From November 14, residents of the Balearic Islands can again apply for housing benefits. Those with low income and paying less than 900 euros in rent have a chance of support.
From November 14: new application window for rent subsidies
Good news for everyone who needs to watch their money: The Balearic government is providing funds again to help people cover their rent more easily. From November 14 to December 15 there is an application round — a total of around 9.3 million euros are allocated.
Who is affected? In short
The aid is targeted: The monthly rent may be at most 900 euros, and the household's annual income must not exceed 25,200 euros. The subsidy covers a maximum of half the monthly rent, but no more than 3,000 euros per year. Translated to the kitchen table: if you pay 700 euros rent, you could receive up to 350 euros per month as a subsidy — but the annual maximum still applies: 3,000 euros per year.
How do I apply?
The application can be submitted online or in person at one of the local offices by appointment. I spoke last week with someone who still recalls the process from the spring: fill out the form, attach income proofs and the rental contract, and you’re done. The online portal is especially handy if you want to click everything together at 9 p.m.—but those who prefer to go in person should book an appointment early.
A neighbor's tip: Those living in Palma and regularly walking along Plaça Major or the pedestrian zone know that queues in service centers form quickly. Online is often more relaxed.
Who is not eligible?
Unfortunately not all affected will benefit from the subsidy. Anyone paying more than 900 euros rent or whose household income exceeds the threshold is excluded. Families with high utility costs but low rent are also left out — the subsidies are based solely on the rent level and income.
What remains to do?
Note the deadlines: November 14 to December 15. Collect early the pay stubs, the rental contract, and bank details. And if you’re unsure: the local office can help, or a brief phone consultation with a counseling center can avoid confusion. I’ll walk through the city again in the coming weeks and collect feedback — if you have questions, feel free to write to me.
Brief summary: New pool of 9.3 million euros, applications 14.11–15.12, rent ≤ 900 €, income ≤ 25,200 €, subsidy up to half the rent, up to 3,000 € per year.
