Heavy rainfall overnight disrupted flight operations. Travelers should expect delays—up to two hours—especially on domestic connections.
Rain and wind disrupt flight schedule
In the night from Monday to Tuesday a strong front swept over Mallorca, leaving wet streets, puddles in front of cafes and stressed travelers at the airport. At the Palma terminal in the morning, a series of delays occurred: displays that changed suddenly, recurring announcements and queues at the check-in. Several connections, including those from Germany, landed or departed later than planned.
Those at the airport today hear it in the staff's voices: they say that your connection may be tight. That is meant sincerely, but the situation is what it is. An email from a spokesperson for the airport confirmed delays; in individual cases they are up to two hours.
Which flights are affected?
Primarily domestic routes suffer: interinsular flights to Menorca, connections to the Spanish mainland: Madrid and Barcelona feel the impact. There are also international delays. An example that could be read from the boards: a plane from Dortmund, expected at 12:22, arrived with almost two hours of delay. Eurowings and Condor flights to Düsseldorf were also affected.
Practical tips for travelers
A few tips if you are traveling today: regularly check the flight status (AENA information pages provide current departure and arrival data), expect longer waiting times and check in with your airline early if a connection is at stake. Pack tea, a charged mobile phone and patience — it helps more than you think.
The weather situation remains tense: until Wednesday morning the island was under orange alert level, and more showers are forecast. In the city I saw ambulances at a flooded intersection and cleaning crews sweeping water off the sidewalks. Road users should drive slower — traffic jams will extend the journey to the airport further.
Overall: If you're flying today, plan at least an extra hour, better two, if you have a tight connection. And if you've just arrived: welcome to an island that can be moody at times. The airport staff are doing their best to stabilize operations.
