The state-supported Imserso trips on the Balearic Islands can be booked later than announced: bookings will open on October 6 instead of the end of September. New are discounted prices for particularly low pensions and trips with pets.
Imserso trips on the Balearics: Booking start pushed back
\nThose who have already been warming up their pen for the Imserso booking should not put the pen away yet — but please press only from October 6. The long-awaited subsidized senior trips on the Balearics start later this year than originally planned. Instead of the end of September, slots can only be booked starting from the aforementioned October date.
\nWhy the delay?
\nThe ministry will send more than 2.8 million information letters to pensioners across Spain in the coming days. Authorities justify the postponement by stating that organizational processes and shipping logistics still need to be completed. Whether that sounds reassuring to all involved is debatable — at the kiosk in front of the town hall I heard voices yesterday criticizing the timing: \"We plan months in advance\", said a woman at coffee, \"now we have to wait again.\"
\nWhat’s new in the program?
\nThere are some important changes nonetheless, and they sound like real progress to many: In total around 880,000 travel seats are available, of which about 228,000 for the Balearics and the Canary Islands. Particularly noticeable is a price reduction for people with very low pensions: they will pay only 50 euros per trip in the future. That’s not little, but for many seniors it makes a real difference.
\nAnd one more thing: For the first time, traveling with pets is officially possible. Yes, last week I saw a woman on the bus who carried her small dog like an accessory — apparently this change resonates with many pet owners. Of course there will be rules, restrictions and probably additional fees at certain accommodations. The exact conditions are in the information letters.
\nWhat does this mean concretely for Mallorca?
\nOn the island this means: travel agencies and local providers must adjust their calendars, hotels check pet capacity, and those hoping for a very affordable trip should keep an eye on the mail. In Palma, at the mailbox on Plaça, inquiries pile up more often — neighborly conversations currently revolve a lot around dates and who can book first.
\nMy tip: stay calm, read the documents, and call online or by phone early on October 6. Places for the Balearics are limited, and with good planning you can still find a nice, affordable offer.
\nKey at a glance:
\n- Booking start Balearen: October 6\n
- Total places: ~880.000\n
- Balearics & Canaries places: ~228.000\n
- Discount: 50 euros for very low pensions\n
- New: Trips with pets allowed
For more information: The official letters will arrive in the coming days. And yes — we'll stay tuned and report as soon as the exact conditions and rules for pets are published.
