A 30-year-old slipped along the Bendinat coast in the early morning. It wasn't until around noon that vacationers discovered the severely injured man and alerted rescuers.

Fall along the coast: Rescue by jetski after hours of disappearance

Early Monday morning, a serious accident occurred at one of the steeper coastal spots near Bendinat. A 30-year-old man was swimming in a hard-to-access rocky section around 6 a.m. when he slipped from about six meters height and slammed hard onto the rocks. The location, directly below the Bendinat Hotel, is barely visible from the promenade, and in the chilly morning there were hardly any people around.

Only around noon were cries for help noticed by a group of tourists walking along the quayside. \"We first heard voices and then saw someone lying on the rocks below,\" says a tourist from Austria who was later named as a first responder. They immediately alerted the emergency numbers.

Rapid action by the emergency services

Due to the difficult access, the fire brigade and emergency medical services decided to carry out the rescue by sea. A doctor from the emergency medical service SAMU 061 reached the injured person by jetski, stabilized him on site and prepared for further rescue. The man was secured to a spine board and brought to a sheltered cove, where firefighters and lifeguards brought him ashore.

The measures proved effective: after initial treatment, he was transported in critical condition to the University Hospital Son Espases. No further information about his exact condition was available shortly after transport.

A scenario that makes you think: Residents report that many visitors underestimate the cliffs. Especially in the morning, when the water is still cold and the paths are slippery, even short excursions can be dangerous. Rescue services urge caution: remote coastal sections should only be entered with a partner and appropriate equipment.

It is fortunate that the tourists were attentive and that the rescue chain was set in motion. Without their noon-time step, the outcome could have been different. Authorities are now investigating the circumstances of the accident to better identify potential danger spots.
