In the night between Sunday and Monday, a severe frontal collision occurred on the rural road between Mercapalma and Son Banya. A 31-year-old man died at the scene from his injuries. Yesterday morning, a 26-year-old man, accompanied by his lawyer, appeared at a Palma police station and turned himself in. According to authorities, the man said he could not remember the events of the night. He was placed in provisional custody and is expected to be brought before the examining magistrate later today.

Police investigators are currently examining whether the 26-year-old is responsible for the maneuver that led to the collision. According to people close to the investigation, the man had already been reported the day before for reckless driving. There is also suspicion that he may have participated in illegal street racing on Mallorca.

According to witnesses, several vehicles were traveling at high speed along the stretch shortly before the accident. Residents reported screeching tires and loud engine noise around 1:45 a.m. Police are securing traces: brake marks, vehicle parts, and CCTV footage are being evaluated.
