Today and the Weekend: Palma with Limited Traffic

If you were planning to drive through Palma this afternoon: stay calm, the city has other plans. From 3:00 PM until the night to Monday (3:00 AM) areas around the Plaza Pere Garau will be closed. The reason is the small but lively Fira del Variat, which will officially open tomorrow – tonight there’s already a big party.

Which streets are affected?

Especially around the Plaza Pere Garau, drivers should expect closures. In addition, for this evening between roughly 19:30 and 22:30 there are road closures near Calle Antoni Maura and Parc de la Mar. This also affects parts along the city wall, because the Night Run "Cursa Nocturna sa Murada de Palma" runs once around the historic old town – romantic, but disruptive to traffic.

Which bus lines run differently?

The municipal EMT lines 5, 27, 28, 39 and 40 are directly affected and run different routes or skip stops. Line 25 is also diverted and, during the detour times, instead passes the Avinguda Argentina, Jaume III and Plaça de la Reina. If you rely on the bus: plan at least 15–25 minutes more.

Leave early: If you have a specific appointment, leave the house earlier than usual.
Parking: Avoid parking in the immediate vicinity of the old town – otherwise you’ll be searching for a long time this evening.
Check public transport: Before you depart, quickly check the EMT site or social media channels for current detours and replacement stops.
Walking is often faster: For short distances around the old town, walking is sometimes the most relaxing option.

I strolled along Passeig des Born this afternoon (the sun was still low, it smelled of freshly baked pa amb oli) and I saw the first closures – at least: the mood is good, but the city is tight.
