From golden mackerel to suckling pig: In Algaida the local gastronomy fair runs again until October 19. Three-course menus cost 23 to 40 euros – and spots fill up quickly.

Algaida invites for indulgence: Local cuisine, fixed prices

On a cool autumn evening in Algaida, when the smell of roasted peppers and almonds wafts through the lanes, you know: the local gastronomy fair has begun. Starting today, several restaurants in the municipality are offering special three-course menus at a fixed price — running until October 19.

What’s on the plates

The selection ranges from seafood to hearty pork to slowly braised veal cheeks. On the menu, as I saw today on a small placard on the Plaza, were among others golden mackerel with peppers, suckling pig with almond sauce, and veal cheeks in a robust reduction. Prices: between 23 to 40 euros per menu, depending on the venue and ingredients.

If you want to join, you should call first

A tip from here: Definitely reserve. I phoned two restaurants yesterday around 1 p.m. — both urged to secure a table. Weeks like this draw locals and guests, and seats are sometimes snapped up faster than you think. Especially in the evenings and on weekends, expect high demand.

The atmosphere in Algaida is more familiar than in the big tourist centers; the lanes are narrower, the staff know many regulars by name. That makes the difference: this is less about show and more about good food without fuss.

More autumn season: Calvià starts its own week

\n

If you're in the area, also keep an eye on the gastronomy week in Calvià. The 'Mostra de Cuines' begins there next Friday and offers a similar concept — also with regional dishes at fixed prices. For visitors, that means: in the coming days you can explore several places with good appetite.

One more practical note: some restaurants offer vegetarian options, others are more meat-heavy. Asking costs nothing — and saves nerves in the end. So: jacket on, phone ready, and bon appetit — Algaida awaits.
