During an evening stroll in Port d'Andratx, an 80-year-old tourist collapsed. Thanks to the proactive aid of passers-by and rapid police-assisted resuscitation, he was stabilized.
Sudden Collapse While Walking — Quick Help On Scene
On late Wednesday afternoon, around 5:00 PM, the entrance to Port d'Andratx briefly became a makeshift scene: an 80-year-old German tourist suddenly complained of severe symptoms and collapsed unconscious. The incident happened at the harbor entrance — exactly where locals and visitors often stop briefly to look at the boats.
First aid from bystanders and police
Fortunately several people were on hand: a nurse who happened to be off duty sprang into action immediately. Business owners from nearby cafés came out, someone wiped the table with a napkin, others called the emergency number. The local police arrived within minutes — the officers immediately began resuscitation efforts.
Four minutes is very long in such cases. And at the same time very short when help is available. After several minutes of cardiopulmonary resuscitation and defibrillator checks, the man was stabilized on the spot.
Transport and condition
A paramedic transported the patient to a private clinic afterwards. According to initial information his condition is serious but stable. Relatives confirmed that the senior had known heart problems and other pre-existing conditions — no surprise, but still a shock for the family who were walking with him.
Such situations remind us how important quick first aid is. In Port d'Andratx residents and guests showed how collaborative the town can be: someone steadied the patient's wife, a café provided hot water for tea, others calmed excited onlookers.
What remains
The incident did not end tragically on the spot, which is the good news. Whether the man will recover fully now depends on the hospital treatment. For the moment the helpers, the police, and the medical staff are the true protagonists of this afternoon.
If you are travelling in Mallorca: emergency number 112, and if possible help on the spot — every minute counts.
