Car breaks down, police find plants: Arrest in Colònia de Sant Jordi
\nToday late afternoon, around approximately 5:30 PM, for a 35-year-old man a short excursion to Colònia de Sant Jordi abruptly ended: His car remained on the street, allegedly due to fuel shortage. Instead of just giving a jump-start, the officers of the Guardia Civil detected a strong marijuana odor as they approached.
\nFive large plants in the car
\nThe emergency services searched the vehicle more closely and found in the trunk and on the backseat a total of five mature cannabis plants in pots. The plants looked well cared-for — not what you would normally expect on a spontaneous trip. The driver was arrested on the spot and later taken to the station.
\nA resident who happened to be stopped nearby said to me that he had first thought of a trip toward the beach: "You sometimes see strange things here. But with plants this size I didn't expect." Such scenes always raise questions among locals — especially now, when the evenings are longer again and more traffic passes through the area.
\nWhat happens next
\nThe arrested man now has to answer for a drug offense. The exact classification (possession, cultivation or trafficking) and possible penalties will be part of the ongoing investigation. The plants were seized and are likely to be destroyed according to standard procedures. The car was towed after investigators finished securing the scene.
\nThe Guardia Civil confirmed the operation but kept details to themselves while investigations continue. That is normal — it is checked whether more people are involved, where the plants were bought or grown, and whether there are connections to other cases.
\nCalm neighborhood, curious looks
\nColònia de Sant Jordi is not a large town; people know each other here. Still, such incidents briefly provide talking points: people share theories, others shake their heads. I stood there for a few minutes — the sun was just setting, a few pedestrians stopped to watch while a tow truck cleared the scene. It seemed more routine than dramatic, but the consequences for the person involved can be serious.
\nAnyone who saw something in the neighborhood is asked to report it to the Guardia Civil. For most residents, the incident means one thing: a reminder that these quiet streets can still hold surprises.
\nWe will keep you informed as soon as authorities release more information.
