In recent days, reports from guests who fell ill after visiting a sushi restaurant at Playa de Palma have increased. According to health authorities, around 43 infections are involved, with twelve people requiring hospitalization. The establishment on Calle Marbella has been temporarily closed.

What the inspections revealed

Inspectors found deficiencies during routine inspections that, in their assessment, could be related to the outbreak: food did not appear to be stored continuously in safe temperature ranges; there were also complaints about kitchen hygiene and maintenance work. Samples were sent to the lab to determine the cause more precisely.

Those affected call for consequences

Six guests have already filed criminal complaints against the operators. Their complaints range from several days of missed work to hospital stays – some describe more than ten days with severe stomach and bowel symptoms. The complaints aim to clarify responsibilities and to have possible violations of public health regulations examined in court.

The authorities have set a ten-day deadline: the operator must fix the identified deficiencies and present a hygiene concept, otherwise the closure remains in effect. Court and social-medical documents should be incorporated into the proceedings so that investigators can form a complete picture.

The incident recalls a previous salmonella outbreak in 2019 that affected another branch of the same chain. At that time, considerably more people were affected and legal action followed. Such repetitions provoke anger and mistrust on the island, especially among residents and regulars who rely on clean standards.
