The island council plans to open the inspection centers on four weekends — about 4,000 extra appointments to significantly shorten the waiting time.
More appointments, less waiting: TÜV on Mallorca runs weekend shifts
Good news if your car needs to be tested soon: The inspection centers on Mallorca are adding extra opening hours to shorten the waiting lists. Starting this Saturday, several stations will open on four consecutive weekends from 8:00 to 14:00. This will provide about 4,000 extra appointments in total.
Why is this necessary
If you have looked for an appointment in recent months, you know the drill: Depending on the inspection station, waiting times ranged from about two weeks to about a month and a half. Last year, at times up to five months. That frustrates commuters from Palma as much as people from Inca or Manacor who rely on their car — especially on gray mornings when bus connections don't cooperate.
How realistic is the goal?
The stated goal of the island administration is clear: in the medium term the waiting time should permanently be at most one month; in the short term they want to push the deadline now to under 15 days. Whether that works depends not only on weekend openings. Staffing, technical capacity, and the distribution of appointments across stations play a role. But four weekends with additional slots are a visible step — and give the impression: they are responding.
Tips for the next TÜV appointment
A few practical tips I've gathered from conversations with people at the stations: Arrive 10–15 minutes earlier, bring all vehicle documents (registration certificate, inspection report, valid ID). Check simple things in advance like lights, tires, and oil level — many delays arise from missing small items. And yes: online booking is worth it. Weekend slots fill up quickly.
If you live in Palma, keep an eye on the stations at the Vía de Cintura; if you live in the east or north of the island, Manacor and Inca often have shorter waiting lists. Some planning saves a lot of waiting time and nerves in the end.
What remains open
In the long term it will be decided whether the additional weekends become the rule or whether further investments in staff and technology are made. For the coming weeks: keep your eyes open, book an appointment, and hope the goal — under 15 days for an appointment — is really achieved.
Current appointments and booking options can be found on the official website of the inspection centers or via the regional online portal. One tip at the end: Saturday mornings are often quieter than weekday evenings.
