Weather warning for Mallorca: Yellow alert level on Saturday – what's important now

An Atlantic low-pressure system is bringing unsettled weather: Ibiza and Formentera have already experienced floods; Mallorca has been largely spared so far – but a yellow warning applies for Saturday.

Yellow warning signal for Saturday: Rest before the (possible) storm

The situation currently feels a bit like before a football match: the stands are still half empty, but the clouds are gathering. In Ibiza and Formentera the low-pressure system has already shown what it can do – flooded streets, closed access routes and canceled flights. On Mallorca, however, it had been mostly quiet until Friday afternoon. But that does not mean we should lean back.

What the authorities say

The national weather service Aemet has announced a yellow warning level for Saturday. The warning is valid for the whole island from 8:00 to 20:00. Expect mainly heavy showers, locally even thunderstorms. One often hears the phrase: 'Storms are often very local.' That fits well – while a street is dry in one corner, sun appears somewhere else ten minutes later.

How the day could unfold

Friday starts sunny in many areas, but in the afternoon the clouds move in. The high temperatures are around 26 °C. On Saturday it will feel noticeably cooler: 22–24 °C possible, with showers and isolated thunderstorms. Aemet expects the unstable weather to accompany us until mid next week. Then sun and showers should alternate and temperatures rise again – in Palma up to 28 °C are mentioned for Monday.

Practical tips from the neighborhood

A few hints I picked up from people in Santa Catalina and the harbor: take a bag, don't forget an umbrella, don't park cars in riverbeds (yes, that exists here), and if you are planning a flight or ferry this weekend, check the status beforehand. On small mountain roads puddles can form quickly, and at well-known pinch points like the MA-1 near Cala Major, guardrails have been tested in the past.

For up-to-date info: monitor Aemet, follow local authorities, check the municipalities' social media channels. And a little calm helps too – the weather here can be moody; often the rain passes faster than you think.

Summary: Saturday 8–20 h yellow warning level for Mallorca, possible heavy rain and thunderstorms, local flooding possible, conditions remain changeable until mid next week.
