After nearly two years of construction, Palma will celebrate the reopening of the Paseo Marítimo in November—with a charity run in support of Projecte Home and a sports weekend at the harbor.
A Long Road to Inauguration
\nThe Paseo Marítimo in Palma is reclaiming its seafront promenade — with a loud, sporty hello. After nearly two years of construction, the official opening is planned for the weekend of November 15 and 16. Instead of silent band announcements and champagne glasses, there will be sports activities, music, and a solidarity run that will mark the end of the construction work.
\n\nWho should lace up their shoes
\nThis isn't just an event for hobby athletes: The proceeds go to Projecte Home, a local aid organization that supports people with addiction problems. The initiative says it currently accompanies about a thousand people affected — a reason to participate, even if you're more of a casual walker than a marathon runner.
\n\nWhat happens over the weekend?
\nOn Saturday there is a relaxed warm-up day: free sessions with yoga, Zumba, and Body Combat directly on the seafront promenade. Perfect for anyone who wants to stretch again before the race or simply stroll along the harbor in the sunshine.
\nSunday belongs to the race: The main route is marked at ten kilometers and goes once around the harbor. There is also a shorter route, children's runs, and a communal, leisurely walk — ideal for families or people who prefer to take it easy. If you want, you can already register online.
\n\nPractical about the flow
\nStart times are planned for the morning (as is common in such events, 10:00 am for the main race), so the wind from the sea is still mild and the city can return to normal in the afternoon. Tables with water, first-aid stations, and volunteers on site are supposed to ensure everything runs smoothly. Residents report that the new promenade feels wider and offers more space for runners, cyclists, and walkers — a rare case where construction actually creates space for everyone.
\n\nWhy this matters
\nIt's more than a nice opening photo: the event combines city life, sport, and social responsibility. Many now see the Paseo not only as a traffic axis but as a meeting place where you jog early in the morning, sit with friends in the evening, or kids practice on bikes. And on a cold November morning with hot coffee in hand, a shared run is a small piece of urban culture that we should gladly nurture.
\n\nAnyone who wants to run can find the registration online. Pack your running shoes — or just drop by for yoga and stay for a chat by the water.
