Starting today, FiraB! enlivens Palma for five days with dance, theater, circus and free street performances — plenty of culture right on your doorstep.
The city becomes a stage: FiraB! is back
Today Palma has that familiar, slightly chaotic feeling again: artists are putting up sets, dance ensembles are stretching on the pavement and a small circus crew is rehearsing in the middle of the Passeig del Born. FiraB! runs until Sunday and spreads performances across several corners of the city — from Plaça Major to La Llotja.
What to expect
The program includes contemporary dance, experimental theatre, small circus acts and street shows that sometimes look more like a friendly jumble than a perfectly staged performance. Some pieces last 20 minutes, others fill an entire evening. Some performances are free, others are moderately priced (often around €10–15). Families with children will find a colorful program during the day, while evening shows are more geared toward adult audiences.
I stopped by Passeig des Born this afternoon: at 5:30 p.m. there was a mild breeze from the sea, and the sun sent a few last rays through the plane trees. The mood: half festival, half neighborhood party. I met Carmen, who was holding her small daughter's hand, and she laughed: “The children love the street artists — and we parents get culture without getting in the car for once.”
Venues and times (an overview)
The program items are spread across the old town. Typical spots are: Passeig del Born (street performances in the afternoons), Plaça Cort (small theatre pieces in the early evening), Teatre Principal (evening productions) and the area around La Llotja for circus acts. Many performances start between 6:00 p.m. and 9:30 p.m.; family pieces usually run in the mornings and early afternoons.
Practical tip: arrive 15–20 minutes early if you want a seat. Some of the free shows are popular and the spots on the steps fill up quickly.
Why this matters for Palma
FiraB! brings artists from the region together and ensures that culture takes place visibly in public spaces. Especially after the long, quiet months, this burst of creativity is important: it boosts local culture, creates meeting spaces and lets passers-by become part of a small spectacle.
And yes, not everything is highly polished. Some performances deliberately feel raw, others surprise with great professionalism. That's part of the charm: you never quite know what will happen — and sometimes that's exactly what you need on a Friday night in Palma.
Tickets, languages and accessibility
Many pieces are performed in Catalan or Spanish; some ensembles perform in several languages or without spoken words. Accessible entrances are available at the larger venues, but it's worth checking online or at the info point beforehand. Current details and the full program can be found on the festival website: https://www.firab.org/ca/programacion/
If you drop by spontaneously: bring a light jacket — evenings on the coast can get chilly. And plan time for a coffee afterwards — in Palma many cafés and small bars stay open surprisingly late after the performances, where you can chat about what you saw.
All in all: FiraB! is not a monumental piece from large institutions, but a lively, local festival. It feels like an invitation to rediscover the city. So get going — the city is ready with dancing shoes, theatre makeup and a touch of circus air.
