Package with over half a kilo of hashish: German man arrested in Palma

In Palma, a package with a strong hashish odor was detected. The recipient, a German national, was arrested. Another case involving Poppers was resolved at the same time.

Postmen alert the police — Package contained drugs

It is one of those cases where you think, "How did that slip through?" Here in Palma, at the start of September, a package with a clearly noticeable hashish scent was discovered. Employees of a delivery service reported the smell, alerted the National Police, and set off a wave of investigations.

Arrest on September 10

According to authorities, the handcuffs clicked on September 10. The recipient of the package, a German national, was arrested. In the envelope or shipment, investigators found more than half a kilo of hashish as well as other cannabis-derived products. Whether the man lives here or was just visiting remained unclear — the police did not comment on that.

These kinds of package discoveries are not entirely new here, but they usually don't end quite as leniently for the recipient: as soon as the courier reports the strong odor, the forensics unit begins its work. In this case, the investigators' work apparently also helped identify the recipient despite attempts at anonymity.

Second case: Poppers in a parcel shop

Just one day earlier, officers had another case on their desks: in a mobile phone shop that also functions as a parcel shop, a shipment arrived containing bottles of Poppers. The shop's manager handed over the goods, the National Police investigated and identified a Slovak recipient.

Both cases show: there are often attentive people on site — parcel couriers, shop owners — who make the difference. The police praised this effort in their statement and stressed how important public tips are.

How to report suspicious activity

The National Police also note that tips can be submitted anonymously. If you observe something suspicious, you can write by email to antidroga@policia.es. A neighborhood tip: if a package smells unusually strong or is sent to different addresses repeatedly, better report it once too often than too little.

For those affected, investigations are now underway on suspicion of drug trafficking. Court dates and further details are still pending — the files will be updated in the coming weeks.
