The schlager singer and his wife have decided to sell their estate in Santa Ponça. For the island, this marks another chapter coming to an end.
The house in Santa Ponça is for sale – and with it a piece of Ballermann history
In a summer-spirited atmosphere, somewhere between sea view and cypress trees, Jürgen Drews and his wife have decided to let go of their house in the southwest of Mallorca. Those strolling in Santa Ponça know the street: small cafés, the scent of fried fish, and occasionally the echo of old schlager melodies. Now this chapter apparently belongs to the past.
Why the farewell now?
Ramona, the woman by his side, said at an event in Munich that the two have lately been spending much more time on the mainland and in the mountains. The property is hardly used – and thus the effort is no longer worth it. Very matter-of-fact, almost like decluttering from too many keepsakes.
For many locals this is more than just a real estate sale: Drews, once a regular at Ballermann and crowd favorite, has Mallorca as a second home for decades. The decision also reflects his gradual withdrawal from the spotlight.
No major comeback at Ballermann
Jürgen himself stressed in interviews that he has no big plans to return to the party strip. Appearances – especially where fans once celebrated him – he currently does not see as a fixed prospect. Small, carefully chosen appearances for special occasions he does not rule out categorically. An invitation from well-known colleagues or a charity event? Perhaps. "One time here, one time there" seems to be his stance.
At the end of September the couple will still return: For the 30th birthday of their daughter Joelina they are planning a celebration on the island. That shows Mallorca still has a place in their hearts – even if the house will belong to someone else in the future.
What remains for Santa Ponça?
For residents, the sale marks a small pause. Not every prominent household stays forever; houses change hands, gardens are redesigned, neighbors change. Who knows – perhaps a young family moves in, or a couple from Europe finds their new everyday life here. For Drews, the memory remains: a decade full of appearances, summer spots and a life between two worlds.
A piece of pop culture leaves the island, but the bay of Santa Ponça will continue to glitter in the evening sun.
