Llucmajor kicks off autumn with a colorful program: today the Anime and Sci-Fi Market, tomorrow the flea market and farmers' market, and on the weekend the Grand Mostra with regional products and parades.
Autumn in Llucmajor — colorful, loud, and unpretentiously beautiful
\nIf you strolled past Paseo Jaume this morning, you surely noticed: in front of Mercadona there was unexpectedly a lot of bustle. From about 10:00 a.m., vendors, cosplayers and collectors set up their stalls. The Fira Frikijor — a market for anime, comic and science-fiction enthusiasts — filled the street with costumes, second-hand figures and lots of laughter. No wonder that some senior citizens at the sidewalk cafe paused briefly and munched their bocadillos in astonishment.
\nWhat’s happening today
\nThe event isn’t a mega-event, more of a family gathering. You meet children with self-made masks, teenagers who trade comics, and older collectors who come with a surprise box full of miniatures. At 12:30 p.m. there was a small costume parade — a spontaneous catwalk on the Paseo. The weather cooperated: a light NW breeze, pleasant 20 °C in the morning, perfect for strolling without sweating.
\nTomorrow: Flea, Crafts and Farmers Market
\nFor those who prefer it quieter, come back tomorrow. On the same square a flea market and a crafts market are set up, along with stalls with local foods: cheese, olives, honey and pumpkins in cozy autumn vibes. Tip from me: come early, from 9:00 a.m. the best pieces are already on the blanket and the coffee smells fresh from the stand next door. Parking can usually be found on Calle Sant Jaume or on the access streets — but yes, Saturday sees more cars.
\nThe big highlight of the weekend
\nNext weekend the Mostra Llucmajorera takes place. This is the fair where the island shows its best side: local producers, crafts, traditional parades and occasionally small competitions where the town's older ladies take the prizes. Those who like to sample regional products will be delighted: Mallorcan cheese, Sobrasada, hand-crafted pottery and honey are offered in abundance.
\nIf you plan to go: bring a cloth bag, bring some change, and wear comfortable shoes — the stalls are tightly packed. The municipality has published the program; there you will also find times for parades and workshops. And yes, if you're lucky, you might catch a live band or a group demonstration of the traditional costumes.
\nFor many here on the island, these festivals are more than mere markets. They are afternoons where people meet, chat and see who has just returned from the village. So if you're up for an authentic small festival, Llucmajor is a good plan this week.
