This weekend in Palma is buzzing with a market, party and a night run, causing short-term street closures and bus detours — plan for extra time.
Where and when you should expect restrictions
\nIf you're moving through Palma this weekend, set your clock a bit earlier. The area around Plaza Pere Garau will be closed to regular car traffic from today at 3:00 PM until Monday morning around 3:00 AM. Sounds like a long time? It is – but afterward we'll at least know again how many stalls can sell a good ensaimada.
\nWhy all this?
\nAt the plaza, the local Fira del Variat kicks off: stalls, live music and a big opening party tonight, officially continuing tomorrow late morning. In parallel runs the Nocturna Run "sa Murada de Palma," a night run that goes along the city walls and once around the old town. Runners, music and market booths – there is no normal traffic that can pass.
\nWhich lines and streets are affected
\nSeveral city bus lines are affected. Expect detours or service reductions on lines 5, 27, 28, 39 and 40. In addition, this evening between about 7:30 PM and 10:30 PM streets around Calle Antoni Maura and Parc de la Mar will be closed. During this period bus line 25 is also restricted.
\nTip: Check schedules before you travel on the website of the municipal transit operator or use the notices at the stops. And yes, the detours can be a bit confusing – especially if you're in a hurry.
\nPractical notes from the neighborhood
\nIf you're coming from nearby: walking or cycling is often easier. If you drive, plan for a larger area to park or preferably use public transport to get to the edge. Taxis are often harder to get and move slower through the city center on such evenings.
\nAnd one more thing: respect barriers and running zones. The organizers and volunteers are visible – a friendly word helps more than honking. For visitors: bring a bit of patience, treat yourself to a coffee at the market and watch the race – it's something special when the city wall is floodlit.
\nFinal notes
\nMost restrictions end with the night or on Monday morning. If you need exact detour plans or last-minute changes, check the transit operator's website or ask directly at the stops on site. Have fun at Fira and the race – and yes, better plan for ten extra minutes.
