Just before the start: A police check in Camp de Mar resulted in a circus performance being canceled and the site sealed off. Reasons: missing safety equipment and suspicion of illegal power and water connections.
Curtain stays closed: Police intervene in Camp de Mar
\nEarly in the evening on October 3, police stopped a circus performance planned for that same evening in Camp de Mar. The large tent was up, lights were on, but during a routine inspection authorities discovered several defects that made the show impossible.
\nWhat the officers found
\nDuring the check, according to local reports, key safety equipment was missing. Fire extinguishers were not present. Inspectors also noted the missing fire door at the rear exit and loose cables in the area of the walkways. This led to immediate intervention: the show was canceled, and the site was sealed off with yellow police tape.
\nAlso, an investigation is now underway to determine whether electricity and water were legally sourced. Neighbors reported hearing a loud generator in recent days; others mentioned that cables apparently were laid toward the nearby golf course. The prosecutor's office or municipal utilities still have to clarify this.
\nAtmosphere on site
\nThe sky over Camp de Mar was clear, a light wind from the sea. A few residents stood at the barrier with coffee in hand, some relieved, others disappointed. \"Too bad for the children,\" said a man from the street, \"but if safety is lacking, you can't watch.\" A woman with shopping bags added: \"The setup looked hectic. It didn't feel right to me.\"
\nWhat is important now
\nThe circus operators were asked to fix the identified deficiencies. Authorities expect written proof of fire safety equipment, tested electrical installations and proper connections. As long as this is not available, the site remains closed. If there is illegal extraction of energy or water, additional charges may follow.
\nThe municipality announced it would tighten controls at similar events. Especially in small towns like Camp de Mar, where venues lie close to residential areas, compliance with regulations is crucial for both visitors and residents.
\nLooking ahead
\nWhether the circus can reschedule its performances later now depends on reports and repairs. The organizers stated on site that they would cooperate with the authorities. Whether that will be enough will become clear in the coming days. For this evening, however, the curtain stayed closed – and spectators had to go home without what they came for.
\nWe will stay on this and report as soon as there is new information from the police or the municipal administration.
