For this evening, the city announces closures in Palma's center: A demonstration march will run from Pere Garau along the Ramblas to Paseo del Born. Passengers should allow extra time.
Evening traffic disruptions in Palma due to demonstration
\nThis evening (start 18:00, planned end around 21:30) the city center of Palma will be affected: A rally starting in the Pere Garau district will travel along the Ramblas to Paseo del Born. As early as the late afternoon there were barriers at intersections, tape and police vehicles — and a palpable calm before the storm, so to speak.
\nI was at Plaça Espanya at 17:20: residents were clearing cars from tight garages, a parking garage on the Ramblas could barely exit because officers temporarily blocked the exit. The mood was calm but determined: banners, a few drums, simple slogans. The wind came slightly from the sea, and there was a smell of fried almond cake from a bakery — a strange contrast to the serious atmosphere.
\nWhich areas are affected
\nThe closures affect several central sections: Pere Garau as starting point, Ramblas, Paseo del Born and adjacent cross streets. Parking spaces in the affected zones are partially closed. According to authorities, some parking garage exits have also been temporarily blocked to conduct the demonstration safely.
\nPublic transport: detours and delays
\nThe municipal transport company EMT has announced that numerous lines will be detoured. Schedules may change, stops will be relocated at short notice. If you’re traveling by bus this evening: expect detours and longer travel times. Taxis will likely have to use alternative routes, and cyclists should be especially careful — some sections are only partially passable.
\nPractical tips:
\n- \n
- Plan at least 20–40 minutes extra if you’re heading into the city center. \n
- Use the ring road (MA-20) or the Camí dels Reis as a detour if possible. \n
- Check the EMT website or the city’s social media channels for current detours shortly before departure. \n
- On foot? Avoid the Ramblas/Born route between 18:00 and 22:00 if you’re in a hurry. \n
The police are on site with personnel and there are stewards giving announcements. After the rally ends, expect a brief back-up as many people leave the streets at the same time. If you’re passing through the city center later, continue to be cautious and follow the instructions of the authorities.
\nThe right to demonstrate belongs to the city — and yet this time it is also a chapter of traffic logistics. If you have an important appointment tonight: postpone or allow extra buffer. A small string of lights, a big impact — and the streets in Palma tonight won’t be the same as usual.
