At the end of August, a woman in Alcúdia was attacked and threatened in her apartment. A 37-year-old man from the neighborhood was arrested in mid-September. The Guardia Civil secured evidence.
Fear in One's Own Bedroom: Neighbor Allegedly Attacked a Woman in Alcúdia
The news runs deep: At the end of August, a resident of Alcúdia was attacked at night in her own apartment. The woman woke up when she suddenly felt someone touching her leg. Panic set in — she saw a stranger in the bedroom who threatened her and tried to quiet her.
I was at the café on the Plaza that morning and heard neighbors talking about it. Many were stunned: an older man said, 'Something like this here, in the heart of the old town?'
What Is Alleged to Have Happened
According to investigators, the perpetrator entered the apartment, surprised the woman in her sleep, and apparently tried to sexually coerce her. He allegedly threatened to kill her if she cried for help or resisted. Despite the threat, the woman cried out for help — apparently successfully: the attacker fled.
The woman was later cared for by officers of the Guardia Civil. She was in shock and had injuries on several parts of her body. The on-scene officers of the Pollença-Alcúdia station took care of evidence collection and on-site questioning.
Arrest in the Neighborhood
The investigations quickly led to the victim's direct neighborhood. On September 15, a 37-year-old man was arrested in his apartment. During the search, the officers found several items that could be attributed to the victim: the handbag, cash, IDs and electronic devices.
The man is now charged with robbery with violence, intimidation and sexual coercion. The case is ongoing; there are no official details yet about possible motives or any confession.
A Neighborhood Is Waking Up
Alcúdia is not large. Such incidents alter people's sense of security. Some neighbors said they would now double-lock doors and watch each other more closely at night. Others are calling for more police presence in the narrow streets around the old town.
The Guardia Civil appeals to potential witnesses to come forward. Any small observation from the night of August 30 can help. For residents, there is hope that the investigations will progress quickly and that the case will go to court.
If you live in Alcúdia and saw or heard something: contact the Guardia Civil or the local police station. Openness helps to solve such crimes.
