After more than two decades the sports hall next to Nou Camp in Sa Pobla has received a new wooden floor. In the coming weeks, stands and a scoreboard will follow.
The hall next to the Nou Camp shines with a new floor
\nOn a cool morning walking through Sa Pobla and past the Nou Camp stadium, you can still smell the fresh wood dust and the varnish. The municipal sports hall has after more than 25 years received a completely new playing surface. A visible, but long overdue renewal.
\nWhat exactly was done
\nThe old surface was removed and replaced with a modern wooden parquet floor. It is not only pleasing to look at, but also significantly gentler on the joints for athletes. Financially, the project was supported with 127,000 euros – money provided by the Consell de Mallorca.
\nOn site in recent days, craftsmen were at work; you could hear saws as early as around 8 a.m. Some residents stopped to take a look. \"Finally, this has paid off,\" said an older woman from the neighborhood who often walks to the football pitch on Sundays.
\nWhat is still to come
\nThe works are not completely finished yet. In the coming weeks, movable stands will be installed so that more spectators can watch youth and league games. In addition, a new electronic scoreboard is planned. This will please especially the local clubs — and us spectators too, when we can clearly read the scores.
\nA quick look at the users: Local clubs' youths train here twice a week; especially in the evenings the hall is lively. Coaches and club officials had in recent years pointed out the condition of the floor. Now the foundation has been laid so that young talents can develop with fewer injuries.
\nWhy this matters
\nSuch renovations are often unglamorous, but crucial for the daily life of a town like Sa Pobla. Schools, leisure groups and sports clubs rely on such places. A solid floor extends the hall's lifespan and saves long-term maintenance costs.
\nI spoke with a recreational athlete who has been playing volleyball for years: \"Jumping is now much more enjoyable.\" Small sentences, simple joy — this is how the city feels a little safer for sport.
\nWhen the stands and the scoreboard arrive later this quarter, the hall will be ready for the cold season. And who knows: maybe we will soon see better spectator numbers at youth tournaments here again. For Sa Pobla this is a small but noticeable improvement in daily life.
