Due to the Patronal Festival around the cathedral, expect major closures this weekend. Bus detours, parking bans, and a concert in Parc de la Mar affect access to and from the area — our weekend tips.
Patronal Festival in Palma: What residents and visitors should know
There is a lot going on in Palma this weekend: The Patronal Festival in honor of Mare de Déu de la Salut brings a large concert to Parc de la Mar on Saturday. That promises a lively atmosphere, but it also causes traffic restrictions around the cathedral. The city and the police recommend: if possible, leave the car at home.
Key road closures at a glance
- Friday, September 5, 23:00–00:30: Closure of Avenida Adolfo Suárez towards Porto Pi.
- Night Friday/Saturday, 00:30–02:00: Closure of the same street towards the airport.
- Saturday, September 6 from 12:00 to Sunday, September 7 at 04:00: Full closure of Avenida Adolfo Suárez in both directions (towards Porto Pi and the airport).
Additionally, the exit from Parc de la Mar to the highway will be temporarily closed: on Friday evening (23:00–00:30) and during the main closure on Saturday (12:00–04:00).
Public transport and detours
Public transport is affected: EMT line 25 will be redirected between Saturday 12:00 and Sunday 04:00. Stop 1982 (Parc de la Mar – Cathedral) is canceled; the route will instead go via Porta des Camp, the Avenidas, and Plaça de la Reina. If you rely on the bus, allow extra time and check current departure times in advance.
Practical tips from locals
If you plan to go to the concert or visit the city center: walk, bike (if possible to park at secure places), or use alternative bus lines. Evenings are expected to be crowded — bring water; a rough plan for the return journey can help. If you need to pick someone up, park outside the closed zones and walk.
The police and city administration will be on site to manage traffic and ensure safety. Stay calm, follow instructions, and bring a bit of patience — then the concert enjoyment should go smoothly as well.
Important: Where to find current information
Check the official notices from the City of Palma or the EMT info channels before you depart. It’s also worth quickly scanning local social media channels just before departure — sometimes last-minute changes come in.
