In Cala Millor, several vehicles on a public parking lot were deliberately damaged on Sunday evening. Surveillance footage provides clues – the Civil Guard is investigating.
Cars with shattered windows: Trouble returns to the familiar parking lot
What sounded like a loud village party ended for some residents and visitors of Cala Millor in a really bad morning the next day. On a public parking lot not far from the Avenida de Cala Millor, a woman discovered four damaged cars: shattered windshields, dented hoods, scratched paint. Such a thing can really knock the ground out from under you, especially when the car is only a year old.
Witnesses, footage, questions
The local police received the first call shortly after midnight. The streets were still buzzing from the fireworks, then the surprise: surveillance cameras nearby reportedly captured several sequences. In the footage, a young man can be seen apparently jumping on the cars. In other clips, a physical altercation is visible, right at the edge of the parking lot.
It is still unclear whether the person caused the damage during their flight from the scene or intentionally. Investigators are considering all possibilities. One thing is certain: the damage amounts to thousands. For those affected this means shop appointments, towing costs and weeks without a drivable vehicle—on an island where a car is often a lifeline.
Case referred to the Civil Guard
Because the footage points to several suspects and the matter could go beyond the local police's jurisdiction, the file has been forwarded to the Civil Guard. The investigators there are currently reviewing the videos and are looking for more witnesses. Anyone who saw unusual movements or noises during the night is asked to come forward— even small clues can help.
Parking lot with a history
The affected parking lot is not new to reports: in early August several cars were on fire there. At that time, firefighters from Artà and Manacor were deployed to fight the flames with foam. That same place being targeted again by property damage is causing discomfort in the municipality of Son Servera. Many are wondering whether more lighting, additional cameras, or more frequent checks are needed.
Affected woman described how after first glance at her car she yelled, called the police, and then a tow truck had to come. 'I now have several appointments, and without a car this will be complicated here,' she said. Such personal stories show: it's not just about metal, but about everyday plans, work and money.
What is important now
Investigations are ongoing. Witnesses are asked to contact the Civil Guard or the local police station. Anyone with mobile videos, photos, or observations from the night should preserve them. And for everyone who parks in Cala Millor: stay vigilant and report unusual activity. A place with around 5,500 residents deserves more safety—and the people deserve peace when they come home at night.
We will stay on it and report as soon as there are new findings.
