Unusual Scene on the Inca Highway

On the morning of September 20, commuters and truck drivers were astonished: on the highway between Inca and Palma, a car continued driving even though both tires on the left side were missing. Sparks flew, metal scraped along the asphalt, and traffic was briefly slowed.

How long can this go on?

\n

Eyewitnesses report that the car had traveled another roughly 14 kilometers with loud noise and a thick plume of smoke before the Guardia Civil intervened. An older motorist who stopped briefly at the exit said that the sparks could be seen in the rearview mirror and that the sound was terrible, adding that he initially thought it was an accident.

After a brief consultation with the emergency services, traffic was consolidated at an exit and the car was safely parked. As far as is known, no one was injured — a fortunate outcome considering how many trucks are on the road.

A breath alcohol test came back positive. The woman was therefore charged not only for the risky continuation but also for suspected drunkenness at the wheel. The Guardia Civil launched investigations; the vehicle is being examined, and it will be clarified whether technical defects were known beforehand.

What penalties could the driver face?

\n

Continuing to drive with two tires missing risks not only property damage but endangers the lives of other road users. In addition to the immediate charge of drunkenness, charges for dangerous interference with traffic or endangerment are possible. In the worst case, fines, driving bans or even criminal consequences can follow, depending on severity and intent.

The scene quickly spread on social media: a short mobile video shows the sparks and the scraping vehicle clearly. Such footage documents the event but can also fuel speculation. Authorities ask the public to await official statements and not jump to conclusions.

For many here on the island, the question remains: Why did the driver continue so far? Was she panicking, did she want to reach a workshop, or did she not realize how critical the situation was? Investigators now need to clarify this. Until then one thing is clear: such an incident serves as a warning to anyone who believes they can continue with minor problems. On Mallorca the roads are sometimes narrow and fast — a defective vehicle can quickly become dangerous.

The investigations are ongoing, the woman is not currently in custody, and further details are expected in the coming days.
